When coaching people in order to achieve their goals, "feedback" and "feedforward" are good tools for managers.

A feedback is a control function of a system to protect itself, that is, to prevent it from breaking down. For example, a thermostat that tries to lower the temperature when it rises too high is a typical example.

What about "feedforward?" While "feedback" works when a certain situation occurs and the control function is activated in response to the result, "feedforward" is a control function being activated as soon as a sign of something is sensed, even if it has not yet occurred. For example, even if it's not raining, if the clouds look suspicious, you take an umbrella and go out. In this case, the fuzzy clouds and weather forecast are feedforward.

The key to our success (as individuals and as companies) lies in our ability to sense the changes of the future. To do so, we must activate our resources to gauge the current situation and notice the rain coming as soon as possible. If possible, we should take proactive approaches, such as taking an umbrella when seeing signs of rain. So, what does your feedforward system look like?
