Sometimes, you can't react or answer immediately when someone asks you a question. But afterwards, you continue to think it over, searching for answers, coming up with more ideas which continue to evolve. I think everyone experiences this from time to time. I call this continuing type of internal conversation "Self-talk". In other words, self-talk consists of the questions you ask and answer by yourself. Self-talk often occurs after sharp, focused comments are made and after deep, thought-provoking questions are asked. It should, of course, also occur after an effective coaching session. Self-talk is a process of internal dialogue where individuals digest the contents of the conversations with others such as their managers or coaches and search for answers to the questions that were asked.
In other words, the influence that a conversation has extends beyond the point where that conversation is over. What really affects a person's actions is the self-talk that continues long after the conversation ends. For both parties in a conversation, self-talk influences how they will think and act.

It is not the conversation itself, but the self-talk afterwards that decides a person's actions.
